When you are first starting out as a traveling nurse, you probably have many questions. Most of the questions with new traveling nurses are the types of travel nurse assignments that are available.
In this article we are going to discuss the two most common questions. The first question is around the question of locations, how you pick where you want to go. The next question is about the length of your assignments and extensions.
Travel nursing assignment locations
One of the great benefits of Travel Nursing is the fact that you can get a position in a variety of different locations, many times picking a preferred location. Your preferred location may be in your home town or somewhere across the globe. Keep in mind if you are traveling abroad, you will have to fill out some extra paper work as well as getting some vaccinations for your travels overseas.
Once you have your preferred locations in mind, you would communicate your preference with your travel nursing agency and based on your preferences they will place you in your desired location. Now, the ball is in the court of your travel nursing agency and they will work as hard as they can to make sure to place you where you want to go.
Keep in mind, even though the travel nursing agency is trying to place you where you want to work, you can imagine sometimes your preferred location is not available but that doesn't mean you don't have a job. The travel nursing agency will now give you the opportunity to pick from other locations until you find the one that best fits what you are looking for and where you want to go.
Length of time for your travel nursing assignment
In regards to the amount of time that you would be at your travel nursing assignment, each assignment varies. But the typical assignment is about 13 weeks, with the minimum amount of time is usually 8 weeks with the maximum up to 52 weeks.
Sometimes depending on how well you do on the assignment and/or how good of a fit the assignment is, they may offer you a full time position; if that is something you are looking for. On the other hand, if you are at the assignment and you do not like the position, unfortunately it is your responsibility to finish the assignment based on the agreed upon time.
